Practical training for people who give
pet advice — and also need to sell

Dog Holding Bone

Many people in pet retail are expected to give good advice with little guidance, scattered information, or training that’s outdated or biased. On top of that, finding a balance between animal care and the business side isn’t always easy.

Pet Store Academy brings independent, practical knowledge together in one place — so staff, store owners, and managers can grow with confidence. Always from the perspective of: good for the animal, good for the customer, good for the employee, and good for the business.

Mission

Pet Store Academy

Hi, welcome to the Pet Store Academy!

Does this sound familiar?

You start working in a pet store with good intentions and motivation. You may have pets yourself, or some basic experience, but suddenly customers expect answers about nutrition, products, animal care, and behavior — all at once. On top of that, there is a business to run. But it's not always easy to balance both animal welfare & sales.

For employees:

Training is often short, rushed, or very product-focused. Sometimes a supplier explains why their product is the best, but real, practical guidance for daily customer conversations is limited. You want to give proper advice, but the information feels scattered, outdated, or disconnected from what actually happens on the shop floor.

For employers/managers:

You want to train your staff, but you're already working overtime just to keep the store running. It's simply too time-consuming and/or too expensive to educate staff well.

I’ve been there!

I started working in a pet store at 17, with almost no preparation or guidance. I remember feeling insecure, hoping customers wouldn’t ask questions I couldn’t answer.

Slowly, over time, I started educating myself about product knowledge, animal care, animal behavior, and customer psychology. It helped me a lot. But it made me realize how much dedication it needs for staff to do so...

And I also experienced it myself how hard it is to find time to train new staff-members. Trying your best to do it while keeping the store running.

That’s why Pet Store Academy exists!

Here, you'll find everything you need to know to improve yourself, so you can:

- Improve animal welfare

- Improve customer knowledge and satisfaction

- Improve the business

- No corporate talk

- No outdated advice

- No sponsored info

Just independent guidance from someone that knows what it is like to work as a sales clerk in a pet store.

About me

Growing up, I have always been surrounded by animals. My parents always have kept animals, so I grew up with dogs, birds, rodents and fish. And when living on my own, I cared for different animals as a family & friends pet-sitter.

Apart from my background of 12 years working in different pet stores, I have a background in education and in applied biology.

Nature and animals always have a special place in my heart. And education/consulting always gave me a lot of energy. To combine these things on the Pet Store Academy is a dream coming true.

My goal is to make the life of as many animals possible better, by inspiring/educating pet store staff.
